This Monday morning when I arrived at the church, someone showed me a picture of a young family sitting on the lawn at the foot of the new Lenten Cross and placing their stone at the base of that cross. Sunday morning when the box was opened, we found 2 prayer requests from those who had stopped to pray.
Since the box was only placed there on Ash Wednesday, we interpreted that as a very positive response from people walking or driving by our facilities. Most organizations including churches have formulated mission statements. In his first letter to the Christians in Corinth, Paul wrote—
“We preach Christ crucified” (1 Cor. 1:23).
Lent reminds us that we are a people of the cross and that we are God’s agents to preach Christ crucified in all that we say and do.
We are off to a good start in doing that this Lent. Let us continue to worship, pray, serve, study, and listen and preach Christ crucified in our life as All Saints Church.
